IN REMEMBRANCE

Arthur J. Billings

Our Mission

Billings Legacy was created from love, remembrance, and a responsibility to preserve the story of where we come from. Phase One begins by honoring my father, the late, great Arthur J. Billings, son of Jack and Florence Billings, whose life, stories, photographs, wisdom, and influence helped shape generations of our family.

After inheriting so much of our family’s photographic history, I realized these images were more than pictures to be stored away—they are pieces of our identity. Every photograph holds a name, a place, a memory, a relationship, and a story that deserves to survive long after those of us who remember it are gone.

I created Billings Legacy so those stories would have a permanent home and so our children, grandchildren, and generations yet to come will always have a place to discover the people who came before them.

But Arthur’s story is only the beginning. Billings Legacy was created for all of us—our family past, present, and future. I also want to recognize my cousin Jacquie Billings, who gave this project its name, Billings Legacy—a name that perfectly captures what this site is meant to preserve and what I hope it will become for generations to come.

In Phase Two, the site will continue to evolve into a broader family-history archive, with dedicated spaces for our ancestors, individual family branches, photographs, biographies, memories, milestones, and the stories that connect one generation to the next. I invite every member of our family to be part of building it.

If you have photographs from your branch of the family—old or new—please send them so they can be identified, documented, preserved, and shared as part of our collective history. Photos and information may be sent to BillingsLegacy85@gmail.com.

This is not simply a memorial and it is not simply a collection of photographs. It is our history, our story, and our legacy—and this is only the beginning.

The Journey of Arthur Billings

Arthur J. Billings was a man defined by his quiet strength and profound integrity. His years were a living testament to the importance of hard work, family, and public service. For over thirty years, he drove for Greyhound, navigating the nation’s highways with a steady purpose that shaped his character. More than a driver, he was the heart of our family, a mentor to his children and a constant light for us.

The Foundation of Family

Arthur J. Billings was one of the pillars on which our family stood. He was a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a grandfather, an uncle, a mentor, a teacher, and the keeper of countless family stories. To his children especially, he was far more than a parent—he was our guide, our example, our protector, and for many of us, our hero.

Arthur believed there was something to be learned from every experience, and he rarely let a lesson pass without making sure we understood it. Through his stories, advice, humor, discipline, and the life he lived before us, he taught us about responsibility, independence, family, hard work, and knowing where we came from. He carried pieces of our family’s history with him and passed them down through conversation, memories, photographs, and the stories only he could tell.

His influence reached beyond his own children. Nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and younger generations could look to him for knowledge, perspective, and guidance. He was the kind of man who had lived enough life to have a story for almost everything—and behind those stories was usually a lesson.

For approximately three decades, Arthur also built a life and career on the road as a Greyhound bus driver, a profession he genuinely loved. But no matter how many miles he traveled, family remained at the center of who he was.

His legacy is not defined by the day his life ended, but by everything he built while he was here: the family he helped shape, the lessons he left behind, the stories we still repeat, the history he preserved, and the people who are different because they had the privilege of knowing him.

Arthur J. Billings was part of our foundation. And that foundation remains beneath us still.
